WHCA is bringing together all of the candidates looking to represent our district in the State House of Representatives (37th LD Positions 1 & 2) for a debate!
Moderator Bridgette Hempstead (Founder, Cierra Sisters) will get each candidate to answer questions *specifically* about how they will serve Skyway-West Hill.

6:30pm – Opening remarks and moderator introduction by new WHCA President, Joey Dunn
6:40pm – 7:50pm – Moderated discussion including topics on Skyway-West Hill community needs, budget & investment, business, public safety, and more.
7:50pm – Closing remarks from each candidate and final remarks from moderator Bridgette Hempstead

37th District – Position 1
Sharon Tomiko Santos: Sharon Tomiko Santos was elected to the Washington State House of Representatives in 1998. Her legislative proposals focus on providing quality early learning programs for young kids, ensuring a well-trained educator workforce, and closing the opportunity gap. Other key policy interests include civil rights, women’s rights, economic and environmental justice, affordable housing, and quality public education. https://housedemocrats.wa.gov/santos/biography/
John Stafford: He is a 20-year resident of our community. He is on the Executive-Board of the 37th District Democrats, a long-serving Precinct Committee Officer, on the leadership teams of two climate change advocacy organizations, and has written numerous articles on politics and policy. He believes we need Major Structural Change, not just Incremental Reform. His policies address five key challenges we are facing: the pandemic, the recession, the pending budgetary crisis in Olympia, climate change, and racial injustice. http://www.staffordforstaterepresentative.org/biography.html
37th District – Position 2
Kirsten Harris-Talley: Kirsten Harris-Talley is a mother, educator, and activist who lives in the 37th district and has been working with community in Seattle and throughout Washington State for over 20 years for racial, gender, and economic justice. She currently serves as the Executive Director of NARAL Pro-choice Washington. She wants to build power for our communities and win real, structural change for our state. She believes every resident of the 37th Legislative District deserves to have access to stable housing, equitable education funding, and good jobs. https://www.electkht.org/meet-kirsten
Chukundi “Kun” Salisbury: Chukundi Salisbury has lived in the 37th district his entire adult life. His service and career as a contributing member to the community of Seattle and greater King County, specifically the 37th District, spans more than three decades. Chukundi is a lifelong environmentalist, communicator, and community representative. He is the founder and executive director of Service is a Lifestyle, a Seattle-based nonprofit currently working on African-American Parent and Family Engagement through its 100 Black Parents Initiative and Voter Education and Engagement through its Urban Vote Project (URBVOTE). https://www.chukundi.com/
