WHEW, it’s been a YEAR. We’ve been super busy, and we’re glad to have been able to enjoy all the fun events and fight all the hard battles right alongside you, neighbor. We put together this roundup for you to chronologically lay out just what 2019 looked like for your all-volunteer nonprofit West Hill Community Association (WHCA).
Nearly 1,600 residents stopped by the King County Elections drop box at Skyway Library on election day, and we were there to offer support, high fives, and invite them across the street to celebrate democracy at our first-ever Election Results Watch Party at the newly renovated Beach Comber Bar and Grill.
On March 2nd, 2019 we held a four-hour tabletop gaming session with the greatest neighbors and friends complete with the most awesome snack spread we could dream up (lumpia, quail egg chicken noodle soup, pub mix, cookies…).
In 2018, your friends at the all-volunteer nonprofit West Hill Community Association had a banner year. From successfully partnering with teens to boost voter registration and turnout to leading community cleanups, neighborhood forums and highly anticipated events like our annual Skyway Outdoor Cinema festival and Halloween party, the year just flew by.
So we paused for just a bit to take a look back at some of the most wonderful, surprising, and memorable moments of last year (in absolutely no particular order). How many do you remember?
We threw an epic all-ages Halloween party for around three hundred friends and neighbors at Skyway Park Bowl’s Lucky Dragonz event space on October 29th, 2018 – and it was all we had dreamed of and more.
UPDATE: Thanks to your generous support, we raised over $1300 and unlocked all surprises for our Halloween Party at Skyway Park Bowl on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 6-9pm. Join the event on Facebook!
We’re taking over the entire Skyway Park Bowl and adjacent event space, Lucky Dragonz, and packing it full of Halloween surprises from a free Treat Trail, DJ, karaoke, and photobooth to lifesize animatronic and inflatable characters, and even a chance to decorate and take home your own pumpkin. All ages, free entry, cheap bowling, themed food & drink specials, and more. Continue Reading
A few sprinkles of rain didn’t stop us from having a great time at King County Fire District 20’s Annual Health & Safety Fair and Alajawan’s Hands Backpack Giveaway on August 25th, 2018. Continue Reading
We captured some of the sights and sounds of August 18th, 2018’s Skyway Parade and Block Party on video for you – we had a blast meeting new neighbors, inviting folks to Skyway Outdoor Cinema, and connecting folks to valuable info supplied by King County Elections and Seattle Foundation as part of our Voter Education Fund efforts. 2017 was a pretty darn good year for your all-volunteer nonprofit West Hill Community Association. We welcomed five new board members, grew attendance at all our events, rolled up our sleeves alongside even more hardworking volunteers, and met some incredible new neighbors. We celebrated victories, re-organized, and doubled our efforts where needed. While we’ve already hit the ground running for 2018, we’re gunna pause for just a second to look back on some of the more memorable moments of last year. Without further ado, here are our top seven moments from 2017: Continue Reading
