About a dozen volunteers got up early on Saturday, August 30, 2025 and made their way down to Skyway Park to continue blazing a trail through its overgrown corners.
Volunteers learned about the history of the park, participated in an icebreaker activity where everyone got to lead the group in their favorite stretch, and met at least one fantastic new person. Our work was fueled by delicious snacks, silly conversation topics, and a passion for doing good. We learned about new plants and tools, and piled up mounds of pulled blackberry plants several feet high.
Since 2023, we’ve partnered with the King County Parks Volunteer Program to clear thousands of square feet of blackberry from the area on the other side of Taylor Creek (starting by the bottom of the “goat path” or “power line hill” and continuing to behind the shelter area) and added hundreds of new plantings.
We’re effectively continuing to grow the size of Skyway Park so you have more room to walk, enjoy nature, and explore!
