For the first time since 2003, Skyway Outdoor Cinema (SOC) moved to a new location: Skyway Park! While our regular parking lot location at the former U.S. Bank remains a construction zone as the new Skyway Resource Center is built, we heard loud and clear from neighbors that they couldn’t wait another season for this annual tradition.
When first displaced by the construction, we replaced SOC in 2023 with the Skyway Park Takeover, bringing 500 neighbors down to Skyway Park for 23 sprawling acres of fun, games, and food.
Taking inspiration from the success of 2023’s Takeover event, we decided to blend the two ideas together for 2024: fun and games throughout the park followed by a blockbuster movie when the sun goes down. Thanks to a partnership with King County Parks, we were able to pull off two unforgettable nights in the park on August 16 (“Barbie”) and August 30 (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”).
In addition to the movies, we had food from Taco Cortes and Nacho Rio, ice cream from A&M Sweet Treats, activities provided by Skyway United FC, Seattle Majestics Women’s Professional Tackle Football, Double Dutch Divas, Bike Works, King County Parks Mobile Engagement Team, and King County Parks White Center Teen Program. We enjoyed live music from two of our faves, Filthy FemCorps and 8-Bit Brass Band.
